A successful walk with God needs to include praise and worship music. Everyday life can be hectic and we see and hear the world’s way of doing things on a consistent basis. Anointed music is able to break us from the cares of this world and get our eyes back on our source–a loving God. I remember years ago when God was speaking to me about my bouts with depression; He said, “Do what David did! Do what it takes to overcome depression.” So I immediately started to study David in the Bible. David did a few things which included magnifying God and singing songs to Him. Magnifying God is simply meditating and speaking the good He has done (big and small) in our lives; taking our focus off of our problem(s), and putting our eyes back on Jesus and our Father. We thank Him for what is in scripture, we thank Him for what He did in our own lives (speaking out loud). This helps build our faith and it makes our problems seem a lot smaller and that is a great news! Defining true worship is a little more complicated. Part of worship includes us walking in the spirit, but we will just touch on worshiping Him through songs and hymns here. We find songs that relate to our heart and what we been through, and we sing those songs with love back to Him. We are able to ask for forgiveness, and we boldly go to His throne to bless Him (thanking Him for everything). The anointing and being able to relate to the lyrics are vital when we worship, as well as song choice. Yes, God does have favorites (smile). The cares of this world will fall off us and the spirit of God will move and surround us. Worshiping Him is such a blessing to us, but God also enjoys the time we spend with Him. Sometimes when we are down or upset, giving Him praise and thanksgiving can be hard to do. However, pressing in and loving the Father anyways will reap good in our lives. Thank you, Jesus for anointed men and women of God who magnify you rather than this world; through their songs we are able to enter His courts with praise and thanksgiving.
Psalm 100:4–5 (NKJV)4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. 5 For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.
Psalm 103:19–22 (NKJV)19 The LORD has established His throne in heaven, And His kingdom rules over all. 20 Bless the LORD, you His angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word, Heeding the voice of His word. 21 Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, You ministers of His, who do His pleasure. 22 Bless the LORD, all His works, In all places of His dominion. Bless the LORD, O my soul!
Psalm 106:1–3 (NKJV)1 Praise the LORD! Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. 2 Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? Who can declare all His praise? 3 Blessed are those who keep justice, And he who does righteousness at all times!
Psalm 111:1–10 (NKJV)1 Praise the LORD! I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, In the assembly of the upright and in the congregation. 2 The works of the LORD are great, Studied by all who have pleasure in them. 3 His work is honorable and glorious, And His righteousness endures forever. 4 He has made His wonderful works to be remembered; The LORD is gracious and full of compassion. 5 He has given food to those who fear Him; He will ever be mindful of His covenant. 6 He has declared to His people the power of His works, In giving them the heritage of the nations. 7 The works of His hands are verity and justice; All His precepts are sure. 8 They stand fast forever and ever, And are done in truth and uprightness. 9 He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever: Holy and awesome is His name. 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.
Psalm 108:1 (NKJV)1 O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise,
