Jesus did not condemn the world, but loved this woman! Jesus stopped the Pharisees or the whoeverseees (this includes part of today’s church who wants to condemn the world and other Christians rather than love). There is a time for correction, but not everyday and surely not before they come to Christ.
John 3:16–17 , John 14:10–11, John 8:5–11
John 3:16–17 (NKJV)16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
John 14:10–11 (NKJV)10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.
- I do not want you to see a story from a distance. I want you to see an event that took place and it was God who led Jesus there and it was God me (Father) who led Jesus to do the works (John 5:19, John 14:12–14, John 14:10–11). This was God treating this woman this way! We need to see a Son just like the Father said, “this is my Son” but we also have to see that Jesus fulfilled the Fathers will. Is Jesus fully God like some say? No, because both Father and Son said otherwise-a Son. As well Jesus said he needed the Father and relied on Him. We should be no different.
- I believe God was showing Jesus scripture and that is what he was writing down in the dirt. That would explain why Jesus was not listening to the accusers, rather he was listening to the Father since He would know the details. Again, we must see Jesus as a Son just like the Father said, “this is my Son.” He is also our example and what a perfect example Jesus is and forever will be!
- Jesus told her to sin no more (this is a wonderful and good message to all–overcome). Sin: Believing a lessor way than God intended, wanted, and wants which leads to actually following a lessor way (relating to sin and death-a fallen way)rather than Jesus is the way-overcome.
- Greater works you will do because I am going to my Father. More to come on this! Thank you, Jesus!
John 8:1–11 (NKJV)1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them. 3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?” 6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear. 7 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” 8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
James 1:13–15 (NKJV)13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
John 15:12–13 (NKJV)12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
John 15:12–13 (ESV)12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
Romans 13:8–10 (NKJV)8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Romans 13:8–10 (ESV)8 Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
John 5:19–21 (NKJV)19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. 20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. 21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.
John 14:12–14 (NKJV)12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
