Gary Rossington, guitar player for Lynyrd Skynyrd passed on to a better place. Like many of people around my age, Lynyrd Skynyrd touched my life. At first, when I heard about Mr. Rossington passing, I was sadden by the news. Then God did something–I shared a few videos. I knew most of the band members were christian, but I did not know about the second video. The first one was back in 1977 with Ronnie Van Zant as singer. I decided to share a second video and this one has Ronnie Van Zant’s brother–Johnny Van Zant– as lead singer. Both these videos had Gary Rossington playing guitar. The second video I posted, around the 4:20 mark started to have some great moments with both Johnny and Gary Rossington in the frame. The fun thing about God, He will surprise you. “Please don’t take it so badly. Lord knows I am to blame. If I stay with you now, things just could not be the same. Because I am free as a bird now.” Johnny pointed to his cross, then a little later Johnny pointed to Gary’s cross. Gary nodded, yes. That for me, cheered me up (reminded me of scripture). I know God’s people lives forever (John 8:51, 1 Corinthians 15:52–54, Hebrews 2:14–16) and If Gary’s family sees this video, I believe it will bless them like it blessed me. God will go to great lengths to get His message across to us. God loves His people and even though this song was written as a breakup song, I believe God used Johnny and the lyrics to bless His family.
Disclaimer: Enjoy the videos, but there is a beer showed in the first video. Please give the videos a chance so you can see what God did in the second.
John 3:16–17 (NKJV)16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
John 8:51 (NKJV)51 Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death.”
1 Corinthians 15:52–54 (NKJV)52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
Hebrews 2:14–16 (NKJV)14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16 For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham.
