The Second Amendment

The second amendment is not just another right; it is the right that protects all other rights!

The Second Amendment

 Right to Bear Arms

Passed by Congress September 25, 1789. Ratified December 15, 1791. The first 10 amendments form the Bill of Rights

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Sometimes a person, people, or government has to stop the threat–a rapist, a mass shooting, a tyrannical government– by using force. This is the case in any state within the United States or any country throughout the world. Saying we want to stop gun violence might sound like an honorable deed, but until we stop people from doing evil things to others, disarming the honest citizen is not a wise path to take. To disarm the people makes them unable to defend themselves and leaves them vulnerable to attack (from criminals as well as tyrannical governments) and this–as a people– we cannot allow. The moment the government takes the people’s right to defend –individually and as we the people– off the table is the very moment the people give tyrants and evil a foothold. Power hungry politicians, those with an agenda, and the uninformed do this in a few ways which include passing so-called gun control laws i.e., “Gun Free Zones” and pushing their narratives such as “violence never solves anything”; in contrast, many police officers, sheriff’s departments, the military, and citizens who had to defend themselves by using force would say otherwise. I quote a former Navy Seal Chris Kyle, “Despite what your momma told you, violence does solve problems.” No one in their right mind wants war or violence of any kind to take place.  In a perfect world where nothing evil or bad happens I would agree–take our weapons. Nonetheless, history has shown we are in a fallen world (where bad things happen), where people and governments are capable of doing evil things. Not everyone is called to be crucified on a tree; some are called to serve others, defend others from evil, and fight for liberty!  One of the greatest victories we are able to achieve is to live in peace. If we cannot live in peace because of evil hearts, let it be victory through the armed citizen.

Luke 22:36 (NKJV)36 Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.

“Militias, when properly formed, are in fact the people themselves and include all men capable of bearing arms. […] To preserve liberty it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them.” -Richard Henry Lee

“A military force, at the command of Congress, can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power, and jealousy will instantly inspire the inclination, to resist the execution of a law which appears to them unjust and oppressive.” –Noah Webster

“Arms in the hands of citizens may be used at individual discretion… in private self-defense.” -John Adams

“The constitutions of most of our States assert, that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves, in all cases to which they think themselves competent, or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed; that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of the press.”  -Thomas Jefferson
